This is a dedicated spray foam outfit covering the city and the towns around it. Foam is the whole business, not a service bolted onto a general renovation company.
That matters more than it sounds. Somebody who sprays occasionally does not read substrate temperature as a matter of routine, does not know what an off-ratio batch looks like coming out of the gun, and has not been under enough crawl spaces here to know what they are walking into.
Material has to meet CAN/ULC S705.1. Installation has to meet CAN/ULC S705.2. They are separate standards because they cover separate failures.
Certified material installed by somebody who has not been trained is still a failed job, and the failures look identical to the homeowner. Shrinkage, smell, foam pulling away from framing. None of that is the product's fault.

A good deal of the housing here went up after the fire of 1877, when this was already a century-old port. Tall, narrow, close together, often balloon framed, frequently on a slope.
Those buildings have vertical air paths inside the walls running from the cellar to the roof, chimney chases that were never sealed, and foundations of stone or rubble that were never meant to be dry.
Then there is the bay. Roughly seventy days of fog a year keeps the outdoor air close to saturated for long stretches, which means every air leak is a moisture path as well as a heat loss, in whichever direction the air happens to be going that season.
Neither of those things is in a manufacturer's installation guide. They are the reason a specification written for an inland subdivision does not transfer here.
One visit. We measure, look at what is already in place, read the substrate temperature, and check where the damp actually is rather than where it is assumed to be.
Then one written specification with the product, the depth and one figure. That figure does not move afterwards, and there is no charge for the estimate.
If foam is the wrong answer we will tell you, even when the right answer is a smaller job than the one you called about. Air sealing a ceiling and topping up what is already up there is sometimes the honest recommendation, and we would rather give it than sell a job that does not earn its price.
Quote an assembly R-value without stating the depth it assumes.
Spray over failed foam, or over batt and loose fill.
Spray onto a substrate that is below the product's minimum temperature because the crew is already on site and it is inconvenient to come back.
